From Tolmino to Caporetto along the sites of the Great War between Italy and Slovenia

Through Caporetto, Kolovrat and Monte Nero to discover a wealth of memories in an open air museum

With general information and four itineraries in English.Eighteen routes of varying degrees of difficulty through some of the fiercest World War One battle sites of  the Isonzo front, taking in  Monte Nero, Monte Rosso, Mrzli vrh, the Kolovrat ridge, the Italian rear lines and the Tolmino bridgehead. They take the visitor through the trenches and emplacements that, for 29 months, were the scene of bloody clashes and bold assaults that culminated in the battle that took its name from a little mountain village: Caporetto..  When I travel through my mountains, I see our soldiers and theirs once again in these trenches, walkways and gun emplacements. I think of their trials, their suffering and their hopes, I think of those who fell...I go as if on a pilgrimage.
