Itinerary, Rutte Piccolo - Spaick - Rutte Grande - Rutte Piccolo: Excursion time 2.30 hoursDegree of difficulty TouristResting points Hotels, bars and restaurants in TarvisioFrom Tarvisio (750 m.) along the highway that leads to the Italian-Slovenian pass of Fusine and, just before the railway subway, the road on the right is taken, which leads to Rutte Piccolo . After about a kilometre you come to the residential area of Rutte Piccolo (815 m.), which is a farming centre surrounded by hills and meadows. Still proceeding along the road that comes to a crossroads , take the left turning and, after a few metres, park the car in an open space where there is a cross and a wooden fountain. Follow the main asphalt road going up towards Ortigara , through a marvellous mixed wood of spruce and beech trees. After having reached a second crossroads (866 m.) follow the road to the left up to the "International School of Mushing" and here the beautiful location of Spaick (886m.), a small farming village that is now empty and used only for the summer hay harvest and holidays. The plain and rustic rural dwellings are the only evidence of the typical activities that once took place. After having crossed Spaick, the road descends to reach the grassy plateau, where the trail is again an asphalt road. Near a bend (820 m.) there is a forest road that crosses the meadows; follow it and you quickly come to Rutte Grande . After having passed alongside a stable, there is a crossroads (815 m.). Take the road to the left and after passing a few farm houses, located in open meadows, where you can admire the enchanting view, the road descends to reach a crossroads (770 m.) with an asphalt surface that leads to Rutte Piccolo. By following the road to the left, you reach the parking area in a short time.
