The Period After the First World War

Shifting of the Italian borders from Pontebbana torrent to the limits of Coccau, Ratece and Passo del Predilat the end of the war, Italy claimed its rights also on the Tarvisio area. The borders were shifted from the Pontebbana torrent to the limits of Coccau, Ratece and the Passo del Predil with the Saint Germane treaty (10 September 1919) for the Austrian borders, and with the Rapallo treaty (12 November 1920) for the borders with the Serb, Croatian and Slovenian Reign. With these, Italy annexed the whole Val Canale, which up until then had been Carinthian, and a part of Carniola, i.e. the valley of Rio Bianco up to the limits of Ratece, with a mixed German-Slovenian ethnic group. On 18 January 1923 the valley, for a while in the province of Gorizia, passes over to the province of Udine and in 1928 assumes its current administrative form. The detachment of Tarvisio from Austria weakens the traditional relations between the towns in the Val Canale and Corinthia, while those with Canal del Ferro and Udine strengthen. In between the wars, Tarvisio's vocation for tourism becomes consolidated, thanks to the increase of the winter sports .
