Parish church of St.Maria Maggiore - Pontebba

The parish church, which was small up until the XII century, was rebuilt in gothic style in 1504 by the architect Johann Komauer. In 1697 the chapel of St. Anthony (now dedicated to the Virgin Mary) and in 1825 the chapel of the Madonna della Neve. Inside is the Flügelaltar (an altar with doors), which tradition has attributed alternatively to Sigismond Wolfang Haller, to the School of Michael Pacher, to maestro Domenico da Tolmezzo or Enrico da Villaco. The wooden altar reproduces the incoronation of the Virgin Mary in the central scene and on the side doors at the front, evangelic scenes. Moreover, to be remembered are the martyrdom of St. Sebastiano di Palma il Giovane, the ligneous crucifix, maybe dating back to the XVI century.
