Its major sporting events are among the best known in the Julian Alps; the alpine ski competition at Kranjska Gora; ski jumping at Plancia, which to this day boasts the longest jump ever recorded (231 metres); the Chess Olympics and Youth Chess Olympics at Bled; the World Rowing Championships at Bled; the Biathlon Championships at Pokljuka; and the Paragliding Championships at Tolmin.

Minority sports such as cycling, running, trekking, rowing, and the various activities of nature and the great outdoors, can be practised throughout the Summer.

There are many traditional cultural and entertainment events, among them:  the Festival di Kluze at Bovec, the Metalcamp at Tolmin, the Festa di "Kravji Bal", the Festa di Nozze at Bohinj, the Festival at Bled and the Etno Festival dell’ocarina at Bled. Finally, each lake has its own Summer night of celebrations and fireworks.
