Bovec
The symphony of the river Soca at Bovec is like the rumbling of thunder.
There is more to Bovec than the old path running along the glorious river valley; it was the site of many decisive First World War battles involving bloody clashes and long periods in the trenches, as all the guide books tell. Bovec is renowned for the world-class rafting, fishing and alpinism of its broad mountain surroundings.
The sport airport is open in Summer for parachuting, and in Winter there is skiing in the splendid setting of Mount Kanin. No visitor with any feelings could remain unmoved by the beauty of the Trenta, Lepena, Zadnjica or Koritnica (near Log) valleys, each one an oasis of unspoilt nature. You can never fully appreciate the mountain trails around Bovec until you have returned to the daily routine of work and home, and your mind hastens back to the still vivid memories of the places and people you met in the natural theatre of the Slovenian mountains.
