The shelter is located in the  Montasio  range (north slope), in località  Sella di Somdogna  at  1395 m in altitude, in the municipality of Malborghetto-Valbruna (UD). It was inaugurated on  12 July 1927  and soon became an attraction for many tourists and climbers. After a little while it became too small for those who used it and with a pleasant and welcoming ceremony, it was inaugurated on  9 July 1933  and this favoured an increased flow of visitors both during summer and winter.  On July 1st 1956 a large marble memorial stone was placed on the shelter to remember the divisions of Fiume, Gorizia and Trieste, who were lost in the last World War.
