There are many fishing areas in Slovenia where the beauty of the natural environment has not been damaged by water management projects. They give fishermen a rare chance to experience a wide range of ecologies - rushing torrents and crystal-clear Alpine lakes, enchanting carsic pools, mountain streams and fascinating periodic carsic lakes.
The Institute of Fishing, based in Ljubljana, administers Slovenias’s most typical and best preserved fishing areas on the Soča (Isonzo), Sava Bohinjka, Radovna, Krka and Unica rivers. The diverse fish species in these rivers are carefully protected, and include various members of the prized salmonid family that is endemic to the rivers emptying into the Adriatic.
