The Tarvisiano region
The meeting of the Slavonic-Saxon and Latin worlds is not merely a matter of geography, but also of culture, history and gastronomy; a great deal of cuisine has travelled beyond its home region, and now finds a place in the gastronomic traditions of Carinthia, Slovenia and Friuli Venezia-Giulia – goulash, strudel, stuffed gnocchi, the soffritti sautéed in lard and the cured meats and cheeses that convey the scents of our mountain meadows and pastures. Carnic, Carinthian and Mediterranean cuisines have merged and mellowed in the Valcanale area to yield an incomparable array of flavours, with each tradition contributing its finest characteristics.
