Height: 5-15 cm

Stem: woody

Leaf: lanceolated

Bloom: black flowers, with small 3 mm long tubuli, joined in 5-7 capitula at the top of the stem in a glomerule enclosed by numerous lanceolated bracts arranged in a star shape (forming the petals of what may look like a flower) flowering July-August.

Habitat: calcareous and dolomitic screes at an altitude from 1000 to 2500 m
